Description of Project

Large rear extension with new open plan, living area with 2 bedrooms & Bathroom above to the rear of a full brick bungalow.

Client Brief

Contemporary finishes to new extended areas, retaining existing details to the existing front bedrooms.

The clients also levelled the rear yard introducing retaining wall along one boundary. We completed this during excavation of the rear extension.

Outcome

A large, spacious open plan living space with double-storey entry & feature staircase to the first floor.

Special Features

  • Contemporary, colorful feature of subway tiles to wet areas with high ceilings.
  • Outdoor kitchen connected to the living area with large full height bifold doors.
  • The repurposing of the existing garage barn doors made for a creative design element. The recycled large timber doors were reinstalled as sliding doors to a multipurpose space, adjoining the open plan living area.

Builder’s Comments

The use of large steel sections was used to create the large open plan living space.

Large steel sections added an element of complexity during installation due to existing site constraints & access.

The design of the new rear 2-storey extension is hardly visible from the street to reduce bulk & scale.
