Description of Project

Full brick federation styled bungalow. The extension consisted of light weight external cladding, large open planned living, and equally large covered external entertaining area.

Client Brief

To construct a large open plan living area that included an additional bathroom and separate laundry, that is contemporary internally and captures original heritage features externally. To convert existing kitchen with fireplace into a spacious new bathroom.

Outcome

A contemporary open plan internal living area and spacious covered outdoor area with external light-weight materials still in keeping with the front federation bungalow styling.

Special Features

– Large covered external entertaining area with cathedral gable roof.
– Cathedral roof lined with stained v-grooved lining boards and decorative fan strut.
– Custom built privacy screen with cladding to lower half and fixed glazed windows above.
– Bi-fold doors with breeze way louvers above.

Builder’s Comments

Using light weight materials reduced the construction time considerably. The choice in placement of external decorative timber (e.g. v-grooved stained lining boards to rear entertainment area) makes for a low maintenance decorative feature with high impact. The lifting of levels to the rear lawn make for a seamless transition between the outdoor and garden areas.
